ANNOUNCEMENTS for May 20, 2012

Congratulations to Sarah Long and Andrew Madonna who were married May 19th by Pastor Esbenshade in theUniversity ofPennsylvania Morris Arboretum, Plymouth Meeting, PA.

Congratulations, also, to our seminary intern, Jennifer Fair, on her graduation yesterday from Lancaster Theological Seminary.

Thanks to all who helped with yesterday’s Mulch Day – and those who planted flowers in recent weeks – to prepare our church grounds for the spring and summer season.

Please join us in Maugans Chapel following this morning’s 10:30 a.m. service for a discussion on our Open and Affirming process thus far.  Questions will be addressed as well.  To be led by members of the O & A Steering Committee, as well as Consistory persons.  A pizza lunch will be available.

Announcements from the Lancaster Assoc. UCC:

Marty Freitag, Member-in-Discernment, will have her Ecclesiastical Council at Salem, Rohrerstown, UCC at 3 p.m. today.  All members of LAUCC churches are welcome; several copies of Marty’s ordination paper are available in the narthex.

Aiglatson, the Association newsletter, is also available in the narthex.  Help yourself ~ lots of events listed for you to enjoy!

Meetings this week:

Monday - “Friendly Faces” after school program – final one for this school year.

               – Zumba from 6 to 7 p.m. in the social hall; $5 per session.

               – Long Range Planning at 6 p.m. in the Chapel.

               – Companions in Christ at 7 p.m. in the library.

Tuesday – Pre-School Committee at 7 p.m. in the library.


   Wednesday - Morning Prayer and Scripture from 7-7:30 a.m. in the chapel.  Come join us.

           – Holey Ground 3 p.m.  Contact Dick Gockley (291-5906) by Monday if interested.

           – Yoga – 6:30-8 p.m. in the chapel.  Pay as you go ($5 per session).  Bring a mat.

   Thursday – Senior Choir rehearsal at 7 p.m. in the choir loft.

   Friday – 4th Friday Family Movie Night at 7 p.m. in the chapel.

Sign up today if you can help serve dinner at Crispus Attucks Center on Saturday, May 26.  Lots of help is needed; Mike Landis is coordinating.

PCC Annual Meeting is June 8 – 10.  Pastor Cathy, Consistory president Cindy Shirk, and chair of our Pastoral Concerns Committee Dottie Holt, will serve as delegates for HPUCC.

Then it’s on to the dunk tank for Cindy Shirk!  It’s all part of Community Safety Education Day.  Check out the flyers placed around the church for details.

“Sonrise!” ~ our 2012 Vacation Bible School program for children ages Pre-K through grade 4 ~ will be held in the social hall and the playground on June 10 through 14 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.  Lots of great stories, crafts, games, snacks, and music.  Please sign up today.  Bring a friend!

The May coin jar offering will benefit the youth trip to the UCC’s National Youth Event. $24.30 received so far.

 Devotional literature for May and June is available on the narthex huntboards.  Please help yourself.

SUMMER CAMP PLANS!  Brochures for the summer camp program at Hartman Center are posted on the bulletin board across from Pastor Jack’s office.  Pick one up or get a registration form on line.  HPUCC will pay half the fee for all children and youth campers.  Give completed forms and checks – payable to Hartman Center – to Pastor Cathy.  Camper Stock will be sold in the spring to help offset costs.

Important changes in altar flower delivery ….. As of July 1st, if you have signed up to sponsor altar flowers for the week we ask that you be responsible to deliver them, or find a helper to do so.   If you are unable to do this, please call Helen Reese at 898-9719.  Or, if you are willing to deliver for someone who cannot, call Helen with that information too.  Thank you so much!

Food Bank needs: Canned fruit; canned meat; cereal; boxed or canned potatoes; tuna, canned vegetables, tomato products, soup.

Grocery store gift cards are giving a needed boost to our Community Meals Program.  Gift cards are available in the Narthex.  Participating grocery stores (Giant, Stauffer’s, and John Herr’s) donate 5% of all monies received to our mission budget. To date, $5,046.50 has been raised.

Barnstormers’ Game with Fireworks – Saturday, 2 June at 7:00 pm. Cheer for the locals – Lancaster’s ball team and the Samaritan Counseling Center, a Hamilton Park UCC partner in ministry. $4.00 of every $11.00 ticket provides counseling for someone in need.

Our summer schedule – one service only at 9:30 a.m. and no Sunday School – begins on June 10th.

Power Pack Update

The last distribution for the Power Packs Program (weekend food for school families) will be Thursday, May 31. Thanks to all the HPC volunteers who helped make this program a success atPriceElementary School! But wait…..

Summer Volunteers Needed: Power Packs will be running throughout the summer. Volunteers are needed on Thursday afternoons to pick up the food at the warehouse onE. Walnut Street and take it toBrightsideOpportunitiesCenter onHershey Ave. where families will pick it up. The program will start June 14 and run through August 23. You can do it once or as many times as you wish! Contact Deb Frailey at 392-2794 to volunteer.

This year’s $1,000 Robin’s Nest Award will be presented to the Transitional Living Center, an organization that guides people from homelessness to secure housing.  A representative from TLC will be present to receive the award during worship on June 24th.

President of Lancaster Theological Seminary, Rev. Dr. Carol Lytch, will be our guest preacher on Sunday, July 29th.
